KM should be seen as an opportunity to manage information and content, to create an environment where knowledge and experience can be easily shared and to link people with knowledge to those who need it. Unlike first-generation KM, in which technology always seems to provide the answer, “Next-Generation KM” should more focus on human resource and process initiatives supported by technological infrastructures.

Building upon the expertise gained through multiple research activities, CAS is furthering its efforts on next generation KM. Principal focus will be the integration of full KM functionality into their offer to SMEs. This includes researches in ontology and semantic Web, mobility and groupware technologies, process/workflow management and business issues. One important accompanying action to these KM research activities is the development of the related research training. AWARE will contribute to this action in the scope of the Marie Curie Fellowships for Early Stage Research.

The AWARE fellows perform research that enable development of next generation Knowledge Management (KM) based upon groupware applications. As software development continuously demands close co-operation between development and research the fellows base practical results on scientific research. The fellowship this way represents a high industry value and each fellow has the opportunity to build an example of industry take up of academic approaches. The AWARE programme also provides them with knowledge on research management mainly based on practical experiences through their involvement in European or national research projects currently taking place at CAS Software. Finally the AWARE fellows are trained on languages, presentation and negotiation techniques.

AWARE targets potential fellows that fit the Marie-Curie guidelines and that comply with our specific requested fellow profiles. Each fellow is affected to one specific research group of CAS for the whole duration of its fellowship. The Innovation & Business Development division both uptakes fellows if requested and coordinates the whole AWARE project.
