VENTO - Virtual Enterprise Organiser

Fully effective virtual enterprises need tools

In order to survive in the global market small and medium enterprises co-operate in larger international networks focusing on their core business. Such co-operations also called ‘virtual enterprises’ result in important cost reductions and flexibility gains. However to become fully effective virtual enterprises need tools that support co-ordination of geographically separated resources.

For a better understanding of the requirements for such partnerships CAS Software started VENTO, an European Union funded research project. Together with partners like Biba, Staffware and Knowledge we established a virtual enterprise model. We then integrated groupware as well as workflow tools and adapted them in order to increase synergy effects within and between working groups. From a user’s point of view we addressed following objectives:

  • Efficient co-ordination of cross-organisational project teams.
  • Elimination of points of duplication.
  • Reduction of waiting time for communication

The project has been successfully completed in June 1998. The main commercial result of VENTO was the first prototype of CAS genesisWorld. In collaboration with Pollak Software and RMV the potential of the prototype has been evaluated and found to be extremely viable.
