ESPRIT - EU information technologies programme

Nearly all data addressing business or leisure purposes contain geographical components. In the last decades the importance of such geographic information rapidly increased due to data digitalisation, spatial positioning techniques and performing hardware. The fast increasing use of mobile devices as well as the rising acceptance of the Internet as communication platform further increased ist importance.

The Hypergeo participants address the development of mobile solutions that integrate geographical information. Such tools create important additional value for informational services (e.g. tourist or traffic information). Until present existing models and architectures, like Adaptive Wireless Information Systems, do not yield satisfying results.

Objectives addressed by Hypergeo

  • Development of an architecture for distributed information access and tools.
  • Development of advanced request tools integrating freedom of language and natural interactivity.
  • Improved information presentation in the mobile environment.
